Environmental Impact Assessments involve a technical evaluation of potential environmental impacts of a new project development proposal. They allow for objective decision making in light of detailed environmental and socio-economic studies and public comment.
The assessment can be defined as “the process of identifying, predicting, evaluating and mitigating the biophysical, social, and other relevant effects of development proposals prior to major decisions being taken and commitments made.” They can be undertaken according to Zimbabwe legislation but also to International Standards such as World Bank, Equator Principles.
