World Environment Day: No to Plastic Pollution

Taking a Stand Against Plastic: Black Crystal Environmental Consulting Joins the Fight for a Better Tomorrow!

This World Environment Day, Black Crystal Environmental Consulting proudly stood shoulder-to-shoulder with fellow environmental champions in Harare, answering the urgent global call to “Beat Plastic Pollution.” It was inspiring to be part of such a committed effort to protect our planet.

The day kicked off on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, with a vital Waste Management Network Meeting and World Environment Day Commemoration at the Highlands Presbyterian Church from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM. It was a fantastic opportunity for environmental professionals and organisations to come together, share ideas, and collaborate on tackling our pressing waste management challenges. We at Black Crystal Environmental Consulting are passionate about a cleaner, healthier environment, and we eagerly absorbed the insights shared by prominent figures such as Mr Tonderayi Mudhiriza of the Association of Zimbabwe Recyclers.

One of the most exciting moments of the day was the launch of the “Plastic Free July Schools Art & Recycling Competition”. This incredible initiative, spearheaded by “The Recycling Lady” herself, Mary Wasara, is a true beacon of hope for inspiring environmental awareness in our younger generation. We firmly believe that empowering children through creative expression and practical recycling knowledge is fundamental to achieving long-term environmental change. Seeing the visual aids that showcased different recyclable plastic types (PET, HDPE, LDPE, PP) and even Tetrapak (LBP) was a brilliant reminder of how feasible proper waste segregation and recycling truly are.

Our involvement in these crucial events highlighted Black Crystal Environmental Consulting’s deep commitment to sustainable development and fighting plastic pollution. We believe that a “Better Environment, Better Tomorrow” isn’t just a slogan – it’s achievable through our collective actions and innovative solutions.

Later, on June 5, during the main World Environment Day commemorations, Black Crystal Environmental Consulting also had the opportunity to engage with key industry players, emphasising the critical importance of PET waste management and recycling. Our presence at the event hosted by the Business Council for Sustainable Development Zimbabwe at  Petrecozim truly underscored our shared vision for a cleaner, greener future. Petrecozim, a leading PET waste management and recycling company in Harare, played a very visible role in championing environmental awareness. Their impactful World Environment Day banner, proudly displaying “Better Environment, Better Tomorrow!! Make a Difference! RECYCLE,” resonated strongly with our own core beliefs at Black Crystal Environmental Consulting.

Our team recognises the pivotal role that companies such as Petrecozim play in diverting plastic waste from landfills and transforming it into valuable resources. Collaborating with and supporting such initiatives is essential to our mission of fostering a circular economy and reducing environmental pollution.

We truly commend Petrecozim for their ongoing efforts in promoting responsible recycling practices and making such a significant contribution to Zimbabwe’s waste management landscape. Black Crystal Environmental Consulting remains dedicated to working hand-in-hand with industry leaders to champion effective waste management strategies and contribute to a healthier environment for everyone.
